Memories of a Wonderful Dog, Boomer who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Aug 1, 2019, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Here are some memories we’d like to share.
Early indications that Boomer had higher-class tastes than his human parents came on our first camping trip. He showed little interest as we set up the tent and inflated the thick double mattress. After dinner, when we invited him to lie down on the ground between our chairs near the campfire, he walked over to our Honda CRV and tapped on the back door. We laughed, but gave in after a few minutes and let him settle onto the back seat, since he was clearly missing our living room couch.
He eventually decided that the nest we made him in the tent was pretty nice, and by our third camping trip he would tap on the tent door, rather than the CRV, as soon as he finished dinner.

He never did like lying on the ground beside the campfire, though. On a later trip I turned around from starting the fire to find he had taken over my folding chair.

He vastly preferred overnight stops at motels where he could jump from bed to bed or snuggle with us on a couch while watching TV. One year we spent two nights in the Empress Hotel in Victoria, B.C., Canada. The room came stocked with a dog bed, food and water dishes, pickup bags and dog treats. Every staff member in Empress livery we encountered greeted Boomer enthusiastically and asked if they could give him a treat — as far as we could tell, keeping dog treats in your pocket was a job requirement! Boomer basked in the 5-star attention and pranced through their ornate lobby like he owned the place.
